This month, we’re excited to spotlight Ashby deButts, one of the software engineers on our team that is behind all the ins and outs of our product! Ashby has been working at BigTime for a little over 2.5 years and works out of our Chicago office, but regularly collaborates with our other developers across four time zones!

What do you do at BigTime?
I am a full stack developer, working on the teams building our integrations with Foresight & WorkRails. Day to day what that means is working across the front and back end to build new features and resolve customer escalations.
What is the best advice you have for someone just starting out in their career?
As a developer, the best advice I can give is try to work on as many different parts of the code-base as you can. You learn so much from just going for it. On the flip side if you’ve found yourself ramming your head against the same problem for the past two hours it’s probably time to ask someone for help, every developer has been there.
What is something unique about BigTime that sets it apart from other companies?
Our development team is incredibly collaborative. People are willing to hop on a call at any time to talk through problems, and discover better solutions.
Can you share how AI contributes to the responsibilities of your role on a day-to-day basis?
I’m not currently working on one of our AI initiatives, but our engineering team has a ton coming down the line and are implementing tools to create a wider suite of automated testing and creating new features.
What achievement are you most proud of, both at work and personally?
I am currently working to build a new internal administration portal. I’ve had to wear a lot of hats from making mockups and writing user stories to collaborating to build out a new application. It has pushed me to challenge myself and learn a ton.
Can you tell me a little bit about your life outside of the office?
Outside of work, I love exploring Chicago, drawing, or you can find me hanging upside down doing aerial acrobatics!
